Jack is a beautiful American Cream Draft who we rescued a few years ago. We adopted him out to a wonderful woman down in San Diego who had a number of draft horses, so she was familiar with his needs. She was beginning a therapy program called BITS Back in the Saddle, and at the time Jack was going to be her family's personal riding horse and would possibly work as a therapy horse as well. UPDATE: Jesse
Jesse is a very sweet little Quarter horse we had adopted out several years ago. Unfortunately, due to a divorce, his owners had to give him back to Hanaeleh this year, but as all things seem to happen for a reason, a wonderful woman who had previously volunteered with Hanaeleh called us and told us she was looking for a horse! UPDATE: Austin
We adopted out Austin this year to a wonderful young woman. Austin had been dumped by his previous owner because he was blind in his left eye. Taylor did not believe that was a deterrant to his being a good horse, however, and worked with him for several months at Hanaeleh before she brought him home. She rides him out on trail and in the arena, and he is also the companion to another, younger, Quarter horse- but he's able to keep up with the young guy without a problem! His owner … [Read more...]
UPDATE: Onyx
Our beautiful Onyx continues to improve everyday. One of the most satisfying aspects of being in rescue is seeing the horses not only improve physically, but also emotionally and mentally. Onyx came to Hanaeleh literally hundreds of pounds underweight. Because she had Cushings disease that was not being treated, the food she was getting was literally killing her, throwing her cortisol levels over 50 times of what should be normal.
