New Budget May Stop Slaughter Plants from Opening in U.S.

Over the past few months, six slaughter plants have requested authorization to start slaughtering horses in the U.S.  Governor Fallin in Oklahoma, only last week signed a bill that would allow slaughterhouses in Oklahoma to open, even though the majority of her constituents are against horse slaughter.  It is ironic that, having pretty much a zero market for horse meat in the U.S., we are continuing to fight to try to stop horse slaughter plants open in the United States, when they are closing … [Read more...]

Maggie

Maggie is a 24 year-old Arabian who came to Hanaeleh from the Riverside Animal Shelter.  It took us a few months to put weight on her, but now she is very fat and happy!  Maggie was so emaciated when she came to us that she didn't shed out her winter coat from the previous year because her body did not have enough nutrients to grow another one.  Now she is so shaggy- her old, icky coat is finally coming out and it looks like it's snowing every time we groom her!
