Maggie

April 6, 2013 By ezarkos

Maggie is a 24 year-old Arabian who came to Hanaeleh from the Riverside Animal Shelter.  It took us a few months to put weight on her, but now she is very fat and happy!  Maggie was so emaciated when she came to us that she didn’t shed out her winter coat from the previous year because her body did not have enough nutrients to grow another one.  Now she is so shaggy- her old, icky coat is finally coming out and it looks like it’s snowing every time we groom her!

We have been working with Maggie on the line and we have started her in harness as well as riding her for short periods of time- all of this helps to build up her back and get her muscles built up.  We took her out for a short ride this weekend- she was nervous, but was a trooper, and did not shy or spook at anything.  We are hoping that with continued trips out on trail and the street that she will make someone a cute horse for a light rider or for children!

Special thanks to Debbie K. who helps to sponsor Maggie and to Maggie’s volunteers, including Sally W., who have been relentlessly grooming her!
