Many of you may remember our sweet boy, Austin, who we rescued last year. When we took him in, Austin had been abandoned by his owner because he was blind in one eye. He was underweight and his hooves were infected with a debilitating hoof bacteria. He still has scars on both hind legs from fungal infections that were not treated. Update: Austin (November 2017)
Hanaeleh rescued Austin about four months ago. When he came in, his feet looked terrible, he was thin, and he had terrible bacterial infections in his hooves and legs. The good news that he is definitely improving! He has not only started to gain weight, but is beginning to put back on the muscle that he lost by not being exercised regularly for so long. Austin Update
Austin is continuing to do well in Hanaeleh's care. It has only been three weeks, but we are already seeing him gain weight and his coat is looking so much better! Last week he got a nice fungal bath to get rid of some of the fungus that is across his back and legs. We think we were able to kill much of the fungus across his back, but his legs are a more severe case, and will require daily medication. Hanaeleh is a small rescue, and as a 100% volunteer rescue with a minimal budget, we do our best to help horses in our area as well as those across Southern California. We work to ensure that our neighborhood horses are safe and in good condition, mostly by being available to help those who are finding homes for their horses.
