UPDATE: Brutus

April 23, 2015 By ezarkos

Brutus came to Hanaeleh last April. We were not anticipating taking in another horse; in fact, Elizabeth was just getting on her horse to go out on a trail ride when she received a call that there was a group of teenagers wandering about the canyon with a crazy two year-old stallion, who was rearing and out of control. Apparently the teenagers had been kicked out of where they had been keeping the horse, and now had no place to go. A concerned neighbor called and asked if we could board the … [Read more...]

Brutus Eating Chips

April 21, 2015 By ezarkos

I have yet to finish a meal down at the barn; whether it be a granola bar, banana, or whatever- I end up sharing my food with demanding sheep, chickens, cats and horses. I was trying to sneak a few potato chips after working Brutus, but he saw me and wandered on over. I was kind of hoping that I would be able to talk him out of liking them, but of course once he had one, he would not stop hounding me until they were all gone! … [Read more...]

UPDATE: Brutus

December 23, 2014 By ezarkos

UPDATE: Brutus is doing well and is still growing! He is getting towards 16 hands now, and promises to be a big boy!  He is keeping his weight on, which is great, and has a nice thick winter coat.  His feet were so bad when we got him that we are still waiting for them to completely grow out, but they are doing better.  His conformation is still such that he should not do anything terribly stressful like endurance, jumping, etc. He will be a very nice pleasure/trail horse when he is all grown … [Read more...]

UPDATE: Trabuco Canyon: Brutus (3 y/o TB)

April 15, 2014 By ezarkos

Many people have asked about Brutus, and how he is faring.  He is actually doing very well!  His surgery went well, and although he had some discharge for the first few days, and some swelling in the area, he is feeling well and things are looking healthy and normal. Brutus is also losing his fuzzy winter coat and is getting in his sleek summer coat!  He has almost no muscle-tone, and he is still underweight, but I do believe the boy has grown in just a few weeks!  He certainly *feels* a lot … [Read more...]

Help “Spirit” 9 y/o Buckskin Quarter Horse Gelding Find a New Home (Norco CA)

June 17, 2025 By ezarkos

We were contacted by one of our supporters who had rescued a nine year-old buckskin Quarter Horse gelding from auction. He was shut down at first, but she has done quite a bit of work with him on the ground and he is starting to come around and be more sociable. Sadly, Spirit has navicular, and … [Read More...]
