Abe the Mini-Mule’s Happy Update

February 5, 2025 By ezarkos

We know everyone is interested in how Abe the mini-Mule is doing. He is fitting in very well at his foster home! He is staying at our former board member's house right now, where his best little girlfriend (who was rescued with him) lives.  We went over to see him while the farrier was out to trim his feet. Abe was a little hesitant at first, but he did so well and stood quietly for the farrier. We trimmed him in his stall, and even with the winds he was a very good boy! Abe is getting a … [Read more...]

Look at Abe the Little Mule Go!

July 24, 2024 By Hanaeleh

Abe is a four-year old little mule we rescued along with four wild foals last year when they were in danger of being sent to slaughter. Abe was completely unhandled by humans, and it's taken a long time to get him to trust anyone. We sent Abe to a trainer for about nine months so he could learn how to be caught, how to pick up his feet for the farrier, how to load into a trailer and all the other things a little mule should know. He "kind of" understood when he was being taught, and it still … [Read more...]

Guess Who’s Back? Abe, The Little Orphan Mule!

May 29, 2024 By ezarkos

Yes, it's true- Abe the little orphan mule has returned to Hanaeleh. When we took Abe to his adoptive home a few weeks ago, we had very high hopes that he would be an exceptional companion for their gelding Rusty. Indeed, things seemed fine for several days and the boys got along splendidly. But then Abe started being more and more aggressive towards Rusty, who is a very submissive boy. Abe started to chase Rusty around and was pushing him off of his food. The owners had to separate the … [Read more...]

Abe the Orphan Mule Gets a Home!

May 14, 2024 By ezarkos

We are so pleased to report that Abe the mule has a new home! Abe came to us last year when we rescued him and four foals from a feedlot that directly ships horses to slaughterhouses. The adult horses had already been shipped for slaughter, but the trader was hoping to get some money for the foals. Auction Horses Rescue facilitated their rescue, and with the help of generous people who offered to pay their bail, we were able to rescue these five little lives from the literal jaws of … [Read more...]
