We know everyone is interested in how Abe the mini-Mule is doing. He is fitting in very well at his foster home! He is staying at our former board member's house right now, where his best little girlfriend (who was rescued with him) lives. We went over to see him while the farrier was out to trim his feet. Look at Abe the Little Mule Go!
Abe is a four-year old little mule we rescued along with four wild foals last year when they were in danger of being sent to slaughter. Abe was completely unhandled by humans, and it's taken a long time to get him to trust anyone. We sent Abe to a trainer for about nine months so he could learn how to be caught, how to pick up his feet for the farrier, how to load into a trailer and all the other things a little mule should know. Yes, it's true- Abe the little orphan mule has returned to Hanaeleh. When we took Abe to his adoptive home a few weeks ago, we had very high hopes that he would be an exceptional companion for their gelding Rusty. Indeed, things seemed fine for several days and the boys got along splendidly. But then Abe started being more and more aggressive towards Rusty, who is a very submissive boy. Abe the Orphan Mule Gets a Home!
We are so pleased to report that Abe the mule has a new home! Abe came to us last year when we rescued him and four foals from a feedlot that directly ships horses to slaughterhouses. The adult horses had already been shipped for slaughter, but the trader was hoping to get some money for the foals.
