We were contacted by a woman who has a bay 19 year-old Thoroughbred mare that was abandoned on her property after the owner passed away. The horse's name is Stacey, and she is rideable, although it has been several months since she was ridden, so her topline and muscle tone are not as developed. She will need an intermediate rider. A Horse’s View of the Kentucky Derby
Today marks the 142nd year of the Kentucky Derby. As we have several Thoroughbreds at Hanaeleh, I thought it would be interesting to get a horse's point-of-view of the race. Happy Birthday Cricket! (and Quixote!)
Last year today, we picked up Cricket and Quixote from a nearby stable who was going to send the horses to auction to pay for the unpaid board fees. They were both emaciated, had little muscle tone, and were so bonded that it was dangerous to pull either one out of the stall because they would both freak out. UPDATE: Trabuco Canyon: Brutus (3 y/o TB)
Many people have asked about Brutus, and how he is faring. He is actually doing very well! His surgery went well, and although he had some discharge for the first few days, and some swelling in the area, he is feeling well and things are looking healthy and normal. Brutus is also losing his fuzzy winter coat and is getting in his sleek summer coat! He has almost no muscle-tone, and he is still underweight, but I do believe the boy has grown in just a few weeks!
