UPDATE: SAFE! Lancaster, CA: 3 Horses Need Homes ASAP

December 17, 2014 By ezarkos

Update: We received word from the owner that the horses have found homes. Thank you to everyone who helped to network them! These three horses need homes immediately.  They were adopted from the Lancaster animal shelter in 2008.  The owner has passed away and the horses need to be picked up from the property immediately (by Friday at the latest).  If they are not picked up by Friday, they will go back to the shelter. Unfortunately, we have been told that the shelter is full at this time, … [Read more...]

Mindfulness and Horses

mindfulness-and-horses

I was watching 60 Minutes last night and one of the segments was on the idea of mindfulness. Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn was interviewed by Cooper Anderson, who attended one of his clinics. All of the participants learned how to meditate, to focus on the moment, and they were all made to give up their electronic devices. It seems that we are constantly pulled from one device to another; we are focused on our phones, on our televisions, on what appointment we need to get to later, what someone said … [Read more...]

UPDATE: Lexie

December 15, 2014 By ezarkos

Last week Lexie got her feet trimmed by the farrier.  He said she was very good for him, and he trimmed her front hoof to help accommodate her bad knee so she is more comfortable. We have seen a big change in Lexie over the past few weeks- she has begun to relax, and has definitely put on weight.  There were several patches of hair that were missing along her coat, most likely due to malnutrition, and we are starting to see some new hair growth there.  Lexie also had a cut in her nose, and … [Read more...]

Lexie Update

November 30, 2014 By ezarkos

First of all, thank you to all of those people who have donated to Lexie's cause!  It is so very much appreciated! Lexie is continuing to do well. Today Emily and I spent about a half an hour bathing her hind legs and under her tail. We would have given her a full bath, but the weather was not cooperating, so that will have to wait. Misa spent a long time brushing her out yesterday, and Emily brushed out her mane and tail again today.  Lexie has been very patient through all of our … [Read more...]
