As some of you may know, Apollo, who was adopted by Katie and Stephen a few years ago, colicced Saturday morning. It looked like he was doing well, but he took a turn for the worse on Saturday. The vet came out and after working with him for about an hour, he was hopeful that he would get well, and Apollo's owners stayed with him all night. D’Artagnan
We unfortunately must share the sad news that we had to make the difficult decision to put D'Artagnan down this morning. He was down in his stall this morning and we were unable to get him up. We called out the vet, who gave him steroids, fluids and electrolytes, but soon D'Artagnan became painful and we had no choice but to end his suffering. We thank all of those people who helped D'Artagnan over this last week, and while we had hoped he had turned a corner, we at least gave him a week … [Read more...]
Monday, 10/7/13- D’Artagnan Update
10/7/13- D'Artagnan is continuing to look good and pass manure normally. He is comfortable and on his normal feed. We will update if there are any other issues, but for now, things continue to look good! D'Artagnan had originally colicced last Tuesday, and the vet was called out to assess him. D'Artagnan is allergic to Banamine, a common drug used in colics, so we had to treat him with alternative drugs. He was very dehydrated and his rectum was full.
