Orange County, CA: 5 y/o Thoroughbred Mare Needs Home

October 21, 2021 By ezarkos

A woman called and asked for help in finding a home for a horse who was abandoned at her facility. Please note that this horse is NOT at Hanaeleh. If you are interested in this horse, please contact the current owner Kaitlyn directly: kaitlyn.mcmorran@yahoo.com or via phone:(949) 275-3707.

Rya is a 16.1 dark bay 5 y/o Thoroughbred mare. She is not registered, but the owner has her Jockey Club papers (this means Rya may have been trained on the track, but was never raced). She was abandoned by her previous owner at the facility she is now. She has been started under saddle and will walk, trot and canter and has even gone over some small jumps. It takes a strong rider to get her moving, as she would rather go slowly, and will buck when asked to increase her speed, which may indicate a physical issue that needs to be identified and worked through so she is more comfortable under saddle. The owner is having the vet out next week to assess her.

Rya needs an experienced handler. In the past, she has pulled back, but the current owner has worked with her and she rarely pulls back anymore. The owner has also worked on desensitizing her, but Rya still needs someone to continue to work with her to increase her confidence on the ground and under saddle. Rya is aggressive on a longe line, and will kick and even attack the person longeing her- again, possibly indicating a physical issue that needs to be diagnosed so she can be comfortable. The current owner has also said that Rya does NOT trailer well, and, again, would need someone experienced to work through that issue.

Rya has good feet and does not need shoes. She stands well for the farrier.

The current owner has been working with Rya, but she does not have the time necessary to really help Rya achieve her potential. Rya needs someone who has the time to work with her and help her move through her issues.

Rya is NOT at Hanaeleh. If you are interested in Rya, please contact the current owner Kaitlyn directly: kaitlyn.mcmorran@yahoo.com or via phone:(949)275-3707.
