RIP Maggie Rose

November 6, 2016 By ezarkos

It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of Maggie Rose this weekend. Maggie had been having health difficulties since July, and although her owner had worked with nutritionists and veterinarians, Maggie continued to go downhill. Her owner finally made the difficult decision to put Maggie down. Maggie was an Arabian cross who was already elderly when she came to us in July, 2012 from the Riverside Animal Shelter. She was scheduled for euthanasia on Monday, and we picked her … [Read more...]

Maggie has a new home!

July 10, 2013 By ezarkos

Belated congratulations to Sally W. for adopting Maggie!  Sally has been working with Maggie for several months and decided that Maggie would be a wonderful addition to her family!  Sally's daughter, Natalie, helped rescue a driving horse, Blaze, last year as well. Sally will continue working with Maggie in teaching her how to drive, so you will probably see them cruising down the road in Trabuco Canyon! Congratulations again! … [Read more...]

Maggie is Learning to Drive

June 21, 2013 By ezarkos

For the past several months we have been working with Maggie to teach her to drive. We finally completely hitched her up to the cart, and she did very well! We will have to change out the shafts for her size (they are currently set for our 1600 pound Friesian, so they're a bit big for little Maggie), but she did very well. We worked her again this last Saturday, and she pulled the cart around without a problem! Driving is a great career for older horses like Maggie who can't be ridden, but … [Read more...]

Maggie Update

May 22, 2013 By ezarkos

Last week we had Maggie tested for Cushings- with her coat growing in the way it has and her general attitude, we wanted to do the blood test to check to see if she was Cushinoid. The results came back and she is, indeed, Cushinoid.  We will start her on medication this week and have already changed her diet.  She is going to live with Delilah in the bottom paddock as we want to ensure that Sapphire does not lose weight as a result of the new diet. Sapphire will move up next to Gypsy and … [Read more...]
