It is with great sadness that we report that Clyde/Cullen has passed away. Clyde has been with us since February of this year (just a few months). We rescued him and another horse, Bonnie/Haven, from a truly horrible situation. They had been starved and neglected for a very long time. We weren't certain if they would even live a few months, but with a lot of love and care, they started improving. We lost Bonnie this summer from a stroke, but Clyde seemed to be doing well except for a bit of … [Read more...]
Update: Clyde (August, 2020)
Clyde/Cullen has been living over in a foster home in Orange Park Acres for the past several months. He and Bonnie/Haven came to us in February, starving and severely neglected. Their owner hadn't taken care of them or fed them for a long time, and they were a week away from starving to death. Their feet hadn't been trimmed in months, and they could barely walk. Several people stepped in to help them, and they receive a lot of love and care. Sadly, we lost Bonnie to a stroke a few … [Read more...]
RIP Bonnie (Haven)
We are very saddened to announce that we have had to euthanize Bonnie (She was originally named Haven, but the volunteers at her foster home had begun calling her "Bonnie" and her friend "Clyde"). She seemed fine in the morning when she was fed, but later that day one of the volunteers realized there was something "off" with her in the arena. Kelley investigated and realized that Bonnie was very unsteady on her hind end, and had difficulty walking. One of our vets was on the property on a … [Read more...]
Update: Haven and Cullen- May 2020
Haven and Cullen were moved a few months ago to a more permanent foster home in Orange Park Acres. They are doing very well, so we thought we would share a little update with them! They are currently being cared for by one of our board members, Kelley, and her group of mentees who she is training for Equine Assisted Coaching. Their original foster mom, Debbie K., also goes up and visits them regularly and works with them! The mentees have started calling them Bonnie and Clyde because they are … [Read more...]
UPDATE: Haven and Cullen Visit the Vet
On Thursday, the vet came out to see Haven and Cullen. It was a bit confusing for the secretary when I called, because I wasn't sure if Cullen would have gained enough weight by then to get the shot, and I also wanted the vet to assess Haven's knee, and see if maybe injecting it would be helpful. I also wanted the vet's honest opinion about Haven's potential for recovery; I don't want to put any animal through needless pain, and I wanted to make sure she wasn't suffering. Thankfully, the vet … [Read more...]
UPDATE: Haven and Cullen Get Their Feet Trimmed
Haven and Cullen have been at Hanaeleh for almost a week now, and they are settling in nicely. Haven is doing much better than Cullen, because she was originally in a little better shape- being a mare, she was probably a little pushy, and most likely pushed Cullen off of any food as they were both being systematically starved for a very long time. Both horses, however, had terrible hooves that had not been trimmed in a very long time. Haven's right hoof had grown straight up and down, whereas … [Read more...]
