Misters at Hanaeleh

August 27, 2023 By ezarkos

It has been such a horribly hot, humid summer this year, and we have been trying to determine the best way we can keep the horses cool. All of the horses have shelters, and we will rinse them on very hot days (which lately seems to be everyday). For the past two years, we have been searching for someone who would come out to the ranch and install misters, but it has never worked out. We thought about putting the misters up ourselves, but the setups looked very complicated and the entire … [Read more...]

Bella: From Kill Pen to Loving Home

August 1, 2023 By ezarkos

Note: Before you read this, please know that there is a happy ending to this story. We promise. Rescuing Bella Earlier this year Hanaeleh facilitated the rescue of two horses out of a kill pen in Texas. This was one of many feedlots where the kill buyers send the horses right before they are sent across the border to Mexico for slaughter. There are kill pens across the northern US border as well. Kill buyers will purchase horses that do not sell, or sell for very little, at auction. From … [Read more...]

Thank you to Western Welding!

July 19, 2023 By ezarkos

Joey Stewart from Western Welding. 562-852-4384

Last week LadyBug and Gypsy decided to get into a tiff, and the resulting casualty was a support pole for their shelters. The pole sheared off completely at the welded area, which unfortunately is typical for some of the pipes we bought during Covid. It doesn't help that ridiculous mares have large stalls but feel it necessary to stand right next to each other and be jerks to one another (we all remember junior high, right?). We called Joey Stewart from Western Welding, who has helped us … [Read more...]

Trabuco Canyon, CA: Looking for ATV Mobile Mechanic

July 18, 2023 By ezarkos

We love our little Yamaha Rhino ATV. It helps us carry shavings, hay, hay pellets, and the horses' daily grain. We desperately need it serviced, and it needs new brakes! We had a mobile mechanic who had been coming out to the ranch to repair it, but he moved, and we haven't found anyone local who can help us. If you know of a mobile mechanic we can hire to work on our ATV, we would greatly appreciate it! We are located in Trabuco Canyon, in south Orange County, CA. The ATV is a 2007 Yamaha … [Read more...]
