It has been such a horribly hot, humid summer this year, and we have been trying to determine the best way we can keep the horses cool. All of the horses have shelters, and we will rinse them on very hot days (which lately seems to be everyday). For the past two years, we have been searching for someone who would come out to the ranch and install misters, but it has never worked out.
We thought about putting the misters up ourselves, but the setups looked very complicated and the entire process seemed overwhelming. With the extreme heat refusing to abate, however, we decided we had to do something more to keep the horses comfortable, and began researching misters again.
Thankfully, we discovered there are new systems that are much easier to install(!), and don’t require complex skills, unlike the complicated systems from the past.
This last weekend we put up the first section, and whew!, it was just in time for the 100 degree heat wave! It’s amazing how much cooler the misters made things, and the horses seemed to enjoy a brief respite from the heat! In the next few days, we plan on installing misters across all of the stalls so that all of the horses will stay cool!
Everything we do at Hanaeleh is for the horses – we are constantly working to ensure their lives are as comfortable as possible. We are so thankful for our supporters (like you) who help us purchase things like the misters, and for our very wonderful volunteers who do the hard work!
