Wild Beauty Documentary

May 21, 2023 By ezarkos

This past week, Elizabeth had the honor of being a special guest at the documentary Wild Beauty, a movie about the plight of the wild horses and how the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) continues to round them up for no reason except for the fact that large corporate cattle and sheep ranchers and oil companies want to occupy these federal lands. The Issue of Unnecessary Wild Horse Roundups We have been working to educate the public about this issue for years- the BLM has shown itself to be a … [Read more...]

Aftermath of the Kentucky Derby and the Fate of Thoroughbred Racehorses

May 6, 2023 By ezarkos

The Kentucky Derby came and went this weekend, with the deaths of seven horses and the indefinite suspension of one trainer (Saffie Joseph, Jr.) at Churchill Downs in one week. How someone can claim to love horses and still participate in this blood sport is unfathomable. We are failing these horses on a number of different levels. Wayne Pacelle of Animal Wellness Action has written about how the racing industry has filed lawsuit after lawsuit to stop the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act … [Read more...]

Action Needed: Help End the Pony Rides at Griffith Park (Los Angeles)

June 20, 2022 By ezarkos

Hanaeleh was recently made aware of abusive practices that have been taking place at the pony rides at Griffith Park. There are videos of older, arthritic ponies who are clearly in pain being made to carry children around a track. Dangerous for Kids and Ponies None of the children have helmets, and they are strapped into the saddle, which is incredibly dangerous, and can lead to children getting dragged. Indeed, according to witnesses, there was a record of at least one instance where a pony … [Read more...]

Horse Racing Integrity Act- What it Does, What Changes, What Stays the Same

March 23, 2021 By ezarkos

horse-racing-integrity-act-2

As of March 23, 2021, 50 horses have died on racetracks across the United States in 2021 alone. That means nearly 15 horses are dying each month, or one dead horse every other day. Clearly even with all of the hype over the massive number of deaths last year, nothing substantial has changed in horse racing. The Horseracing Integrity Act The Horseracing Integrity Act was passed last year, although it does not take effect until July, 2022. It passed with bipartisan support, and had joint support … [Read more...]
