Hanaeleh’s Horses Visit the Dentist
Why do the horses need to see a dentist? This past week we had the vet come out to float all of the horses' teeth at Hanaeleh. The horses get their teeth floated every year to ensure that they can all eat and masticate their food efficiently so they are getting the nutrients out of their hay. Just like people, who only get a baby and adult set of teeth, horses have both baby teeth and adult teeth. UPDATE 2022: Raven
Raven is a 16 year-old Friesian mare who came to Hanaeleh a few months ago. She had been given to a trainer as a lesson horse, but unfortunately she isn't trained to ride, and the trainer didn't have time to train her. She wanted to make sure that Raven found a safe home, which is why she came to Hanaeleh. UPDATE 2022: Sierra
When Sierra came to Hanaeleh, we were told that she was trained to ride and just a little nervous out on trail, but we quickly discovered that not only was she not trained, but that previous trainers had used abusive methods when working with her. As a result, we had to teach Sierra how to work under saddle, and we needed her to trust us and to eliminate the fear reaction she had to being worked.
