Gus

June 29, 2012 By Hanaeleh

Rescued October 15, 2010 Adopted October 24, 2010 Adopted April 1, 2012 Gus’ owner contacted Hanaeleh and told us that if we did not come and take Gus, then he would be forced to sell him to a killer buyer.  We discovered that Gus was lame, and when the vet refused to put him down, the owner had taken him out on trail and tried to make his injury worse so the vet would euthanize him.  We realized that we had to get Gus out of this situation immediately, but we did not have any room, so … [Read more...]

Annie

June 29, 2012 By Hanaeleh

Rescued July 26, 2009 Adopted November 13, 2011 Hanaeleh was called out to take an Arabian whose owners no longer wanted her.  She had been given to a person who came out to the facility for another horse, but was not able to take Annie as well.  All of the horses on the property were starving, but Annie had been abandoned by someone else, and so they were only willing to let her go.  Hanaeleh took Annie and called animal control to take the other horses.  Annie had been kept in a 10x10 … [Read more...]

Rescued March 1, 2009 Adopted February 26, 2012 Nevada was found abandoned in a backyard in Riverside.  He had been the victim of abusive individuals who were training him to be used as a charro horse.  Their training methods included beating his legs with chains in order to make him do the Spanish walk and to piaffe on command.  He and another pony were rescued by a neighbor named Kim M. who helped to put weight on him.  Hanaeleh took him in and spent many long, patient hours working with … [Read more...]

Pun’kin and Baby

June 29, 2012 By Hanaeleh

Rescued December 13, 2008 Adopted December 13, 2008 Pun’kin and Baby were registered Tennessee Walking Horses whose owner could not longer care for them.  Hanaeleh found an individual in Northern California who was able to take them, and we drove them up there, believing that they would be able to happily live out their lives. After a few months, however, the new owner decided she did not want either horse, and threatened to have them euthanized by shooting them if we did not pick them … [Read more...]
