Hoe Down Postponed

It is with with great disappointment that we have decided to postpone our Hanaeleh Hoe Down that was to take place next Saturday, May 12th. This decision was based upon several factors, and we are very sorry to everyone who had planned on coming out. A Horse’s View of the Kentucky Derby

This Saturday is the 144th Kentucky Derby. As we have several Thoroughbreds at Hanaeleh, I thought it would be interesting to get a horse's point-of-view of the race. Brutus- 5 year-old Thoroughbred I was bred to race, although you would not know it from my conformation. Titan has been feeling very good these past few weeks! He has been enjoying the cooler weather and acting very silly in the round pen, but today he seemed pretty mellow, so Emily got on him bareback and rode him around for a while. He is so easy to ride- especially bareback! We are still looking for a good home for him- because of his previous injury, we are looking for a home that only wants him to walk or trot, as cantering can put undue pressure on his suspensories. It's been a few weeks since we brought Austin back to Hanaeleh, and it was pretty obvious that our big boy needs a job. His feet have finally grown out and he's feeling great! We have been working him in the round pen, but that was getting boring for him- unfortunately with his blindness in his left eye he was uncertain in the arena, and we didn't want to try to have him run in the bigger area where he was uncomfortable.
