UPDATE: Jack

March 20, 2016 By ezarkos

Yes, everyone loves Jack! He’s definitely the “Fabio” of the ranch at the moment!  Jack is a big, beautiful American Creme Draft horse, and he has captured everyone’s heart.

Jack is currently up for adoption, and we are still looking for the perfect person for him. He is a lovely big lug, but needs someone who has the ability to work with him.  If you are interested in adopting Jack, please visit his adoption page.

Last week we got Jack caught up on all of his vaccinations and had his teeth floated. He had some ulcerations on one side of his mouth from points on his teeth rubbing up against his mouth, but the vet said that they would heal up within a few weeks. Jack was very good for the vet, and stood well as she worked on his mouth. After he had his teeth done and while he was still drugged, Elizabeth cleaned his sheath (she gets all of the great jobs). He wasn’t exactly thrilled with the process, but he did fine.

Our volunteers have discovered that Jack sheds- a lot! Because it is springtime, all of the horses are shedding out their entire winter coat and growing in a new, summer coat (apparently Jack gets dapples in the summertime). Jack just happens to have a LOT of a winter coat to shed out!

Elizabeth rode Jack in the arena and around the ranch today- he did very well, even if he did try to stop once or twice to take a bite of the lovely fresh grass that’s popping up everywhere!  She usually rides him bareback and he seems to do just fine without a saddle.
