Hanaeleh received word earlier this week that HiCalibur Horse Rescue needed to place several horses who were in desperate need. The elderly owner of the horses had not been caring for them. The situation became more dire when it was discovered that the owner was being evicted from her home and the horses had nowhere to go. UPDATE: Brutus
We rescued Brutus a little over a year ago (you can read more about Brutus' time at Hanaeleh here). He has been progressing well, albeit slowly, partly due to his immaturity and partly due to the fact that was very malnourished. When we first took him in, we were concerned that his growth would be stunted due to his being obviously underfed for a very long time. UPDATE: Sapphire’s New Home
Today we took Sapphire to her forever home in Encinitas, CA. It was both wonderful and heartbreaking at the same time; we are so very happy for Sapphire and her new family, and we have wanted her to have a special family to love her through the end of her years. At the same time, Sapphire is a very special horse, and we all grew to love her very much, and will miss her presence at Hanaeleh. Why You Should Not Support the Kentucky Derby
On Saturday morning, 20 horses will run in the Kentucky Derby and ONE will win. Let me be a little more specific: Out of approximately 35,000 registered Thoroughbreds, 20 three-year old horses, who have been in training since they were 12 months or younger, will be running faster than is safe for their bodies.
