UPDATE: Argento found a home with one of our supporters who adopted another horse from us! He will go to live in a big pasture with some other horse friends and enjoy arena and trail riding. UPDATE August 1, 2024: The owner contacted us and let us know that Willy has found a new home! Thank you to everyone who helped to share his post! We were contacted by a woman who is unable to keep her 17 y/o Thoroughbred gelding. He was raced until he was nine years old, and then retired. Since then he has been trained as a pleasure horse, and the owner thinks that he would be good for an intermediate or advanced rider and handler. Aftermath of the Kentucky Derby and the Fate of Thoroughbred Racehorses
The Kentucky Derby came and went this weekend, with the deaths of seven horses and the indefinite suspension of one trainer (Saffie Joseph, Jr.) at Churchill Downs in one week. How someone can claim to love horses and still participate in this blood sport is unfathomable. We are failing these horses on a number of different levels. Southern California: 22 y/o Thoroughbred Gelding Needs Home!
Southern California: We were contacted by a woman who has a 22 y/o Thoroughbred gelding who she can't afford to keep anymore. He was a show jumper, and came up with a slight lameness about a year and a half ago, so they put him out in a pasture to heal. He is moving out sound now, but hasn't been ridden at all during the last 18 months. The owner isn't looking to sell him, but is looking for a good home for him.
