New Chickens at Hanaeleh

May 24, 2014 By ezarkos

Hanaeleh will soon be the home to two new baby chicks.  They were the product of a kindergarten teacher who thought that hatching chickens would be a good lesson to teach her class.  There are so many aspects of this continued practice that I can say are just awful, but one of the most disturbing ideas is the concept that we are teaching our children that animals are somehow disposable; that it is perfectly OK to bring a life into the world to see the "wonderment of life," and then, once that is … [Read more...]

Memorial Day

May 24, 2014 By ezarkos

Memorial Day is a day to remember all of our veterans who have served and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.  While many just see this day as a day off from work, it is a reminder that we often take for granted the thousands of men and women who have given their lives in the service of our country. That being said, we would be remiss if we did not remember the non-humans who have served in the war effort as well.  These include the thousands of horses, dogs, pigeons- even dolphins- … [Read more...]

Anaheim Hills, CA: 18 y/o Warmblood Gelding Needs Home

May 17, 2014 By ezarkos

We received a call this week from an owner who is looking to rehome his 18 y/o Warmblood gelding.   He has been offered money for this guy, but the owner is very choosy about getting his boy the right home, and is more concerned with finding an owner who will be a good fit. The gelding is sound and is currently being ridden dressage and on trail.  The owner said that he used to jump him, but the horse just doesn't want to jump anymore.  There is nothing physically wrong with the horse, but he … [Read more...]
