We celebrated our Hanaeleh Halloween costume contest last Saturday 10/18 by dressing up (most of) the horses in very silly costumes! They all were great sports about the entire affair. Rescued! Two Weanlings and a Mule!
We are so pleased to be able to have a happy ending to the post we put up on Monday about three babies who were at a feedlot on the border. The Backstory Hanaeleh's president Elizabeth happened to be scrolling through Facebook when she saw the post by Auction Horses Rescue. They were trying to network weanlings and yearling horses that had been rounded up from the Navajo reservation. Orange, CA: 19 y/o Thoroughbred Mare Needs Home
We were contacted by a woman who has a bay 19 year-old Thoroughbred mare that was abandoned on her property after the owner passed away. The horse's name is Stacey, and she is rideable, although it has been several months since she was ridden, so her topline and muscle tone are not as developed. She will need an intermediate rider. RIP Sapphire
It is with a very heavy heart that we must report the devastating news that Sapphire passed away this past week. We are all heartbroken. A few years ago, Sapphire was bitten by a black widow spider, and even though we had the vet out immediately, she developed cellulitis (a bacterial infection under the skin), and her leg swelled up overnight so badly that last January we were concerned we would have to put her down.
