Orange County, CA: Imported Selle Francais Gelding Needs Home!

January 6, 2015 By ezarkos

Hanaeleh helps to network horses who need homes free of charge. These horses are offered free to a good home, but an adoption agreement and contract are often suggested. Hanaeleh does not know anything beyond what is listed in the post- please contact the owner directly.

Gitan is an 18.1 hand, 23 y/o chestnut Selle Francais gelding, originally imported from France, comes with papers/passport.  When he was younger he was shown and when he got older he was used as a lesson horse. Unfortunately Gitan has both ringbone and navicular. It has always been managed through corrective shoeing and a careful workload.

About a year ago he was retired to Heavenly Acres in Corona, but the owner is no longer able to continue to pay for his retirement. Gitan is still rideable at the walk, trot and canter, but the owner wants to make sure that he goes to someone who will not overwork him.  He is doing well out in pasture, living bute free and comfortable, although he still has shoes and pads on the front to manage his navicular. Gitan has always been an easy keeper, with no dietary restrictions. He’s up to date on his vaccinations, trailers well, baths, clips, ties, stands for farrier, etc. He currently lives with seven other geldings and does well with them.

Gitan would be good for a beginner or intermediate rider. He is great in the arena (even a little lazy), but he would need an intermediate rider for trail as he has not had a lot of time out on trail.  He is good with kids and has excellent ground manners.

For more information on Gitan, please contact his owner directly:

June 17, 2025 By ezarkos

We were contacted by one of our supporters who had rescued a nine year-old buckskin Quarter Horse gelding from auction.
