Meet Maggie and Ulysses. Both are from the Riverside shelter. They were both abandoned in the riverbed by their owners, respectively. Maggie needs a lot of weight and some dental and farrier care. Ulysses is covered with scars across his back and face, presumably from his previous owner. Ulysses had some issues when we picked him up- first, he didn’t want to leave his stall (probably so happy he was getting fed everyday!). Then it took a while to get him into the trailer- if I had just been picked up by people who fed me everyday and didn’t hit me, I probably wouldn’t want to leave, either. After a brilliant suggestion that we move the trailer do that he didn’t have to step up so much, he walked right in! Maggie was a trooper and took her place in the trailer without a hitch!
Although they had never met each other before, they seemed to do well in the paddock together. They’ll see the vet and farrier next week!
