Laguna Woods: Four Horses Need Homes!

June 15, 2020 By ezarkos

UPDATE:

We received an e-mail on Tuesday, June 23rd that Blaze, Baby and Moonstar have found a good home but the center is still looking for a good home for Brandi.  She has DSLD, which means her suspensory tendons have essentially stretched out and she can no longer carry weight comfortably. She can still walk around and is healthy otherwise. If anyone is looking for a cute little horse for a companion for themselves or another horse, please call Liz at the riding program at the Laguna Woods Equestrian Center: (760) 885-7857.

Brandi’s pictures and descriptions are in the original post below. Again, Brandi is NOT at Hanaeleh. Please contact Liz for more information: (760) 885-7857.

———————————————————————————————————————

We received an e-mail from Liz at the Laguna Woods Equestrian Center (Orange County, CA). They have four horses who are no longer suitable for their riding program, and they are looking for good foster home or adoptive homes for them. Two need to go together because they are bonded (Baby and Blaze). They are looking for good homes for them. These horses all have very sweet dispositions and are up-to-date on all of their medical and farrier care.

We have listed everything that we know about these horses- for more information, please contact Liz at the riding program at the Laguna Woods Equestrian Center: (760) 885-7857.

These horses are NOT at Hanaeleh. For more information, please contact Liz: (760) 885-7857.

Brandi

Brandi is in her mid-20s. She looks to be a cute little dun Quarter horse mare. She was just recently pulled from the riding program. Brandi has fallen fetlocks (DSLD) that cannot be treated- she is OK at a walk but can no longer be ridden. The vet recommended that if she is put out to pasture she will need to be given supplemental feed (soaked pellets) in order to keep her weight up. She is at a good weight now.

Baby

Baby is an Arabian-cross gelding in his early to mid-30s. He has Cushings but Liz says it is “undiagnosed” so we are uncertain if he is on Pergolide/Prescend. He is bonded with Blaze.

Blaze

Blaze looks to be a Thoroughbred gelding. He is also in his mid-30s. He is bonded with Baby.

Moonstar

Moonstar is an Appaloosa gelding in his late 20s. He has some arthritis and has had some issues with getting up after lying down. This could possibly be alleviated with some pain medication like Equiiox, but we are uncertain. He is still being ridden at a walk by the instructors at the program.

This is all of the information that we were given about these horses. They are are NOT at Hanaeleh. For more information, please contact Liz: (760) 885-7857.

Help “Spirit” 9 y/o Buckskin Quarter Horse Gelding Find a New Home (Norco CA)

June 17, 2025 By ezarkos

We were contacted by one of our supporters who had rescued a nine year-old buckskin Quarter Horse gelding from auction. He was shut down at first, but she has done quite a bit of work with him on the ground and he is starting to come around and be more sociable. Sadly, Spirit has navicular, and … [Read More...]
