ABOUT HANAELEH

How we help

Hanaeleh is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of horses. We rescue neglected, homeless and abused horses that would otherwise be sold to slaughterhouses.

We rescue all breeds and ages of horses, and after we rehabilitate them, we work to find them new loving homes. When horses are not adoptable due to severe neglect or abuse, we provide sanctuary for them to live out their days knowing they’ll always be loved and cared for.

Our history

Hanaeleh was created in 2004 after its founder, Elizabeth Zarkos, purchased Cleo, an untrained Arabian horse, from a feedlot two days before the horse was scheduled to be shipped to the slaughterhouse.

Hanaeleh is both a horse rescue and a strong proponent against horse slaughter. Learn more about how you can help end horse slaughter in the United States.
