Check Out Our Newly Refurbished Arena and Round Pen!

April 29, 2025 By ezarkos

The Santa Ana winds that tore through our ranch last fall didn’t just destroy several of our shelters—they also blew away nearly all the sand from our arena. After the winter rains, we tried dragging the arena to loosen and soften the remaining dirt for the horses, but our current drag isn’t heavy enough to properly break up and restore the footing.

Thankfully, we discovered BMI Construction, a small company that does just that- they help to till the dirt in the arena, flattening the area but also pulling up the compacted sand in the arena, making it nice and soft again!

We were able to create a soft platform for the horses to exercise, making it much easier on their joints; additionally, we didn’t have to pay for extra material, as the company was just able to pull up the previous material that had just been compacted down. This enabled us to pay for both the arena and round pen to be refurbished.

The horses were so happy- the first thing they did once we turned them out was to immediately lay down and have a lovely roll in the nice, soft sand!

It took a while, but the machine was able to break up the packed sand in the arena.
The round pen had been washed out from the rains and but now it’s flat and soft for the horses!

We had to open up the panel on the round pen to get the machine in.
Starting on the arena- you can see the difference immediately!
