Update 2022: Ulysses

January 25, 2022 By ezarkos

It seems like only yesterday that we brought Ulysses home from the Riverside Animal Shelter. Can you believe that this June will be Ulysses' 10th anniversary of being rescued? He is truly a miracle horse. Ulysses had been horribly abused by Charros, only to be dumped in the Riverside CA riverbed, then picked up by Animal Control, only to be slated to be put down the following day. We weren't even at the shelter to pick him up- we were there to pick up a 16 year-old Thoroughbred (who oddly … [Read more...]

Update: Ulysses (August, 2020)

August 13, 2020 By ezarkos

Ulysses is an Appendix gelding and he came to Hanaeleh a little over eight years ago! Time flies when you're rehabbing horses! We rescued him from the Riverside shelter on July 21st in 2012. He was scheduled to be put down two days later because he was diagnosed as being neurological. In addition, he was emaciated and it was obvious that he had been severely abused- there were scars and wounds all over his body. It took a long time for Ulysses to learn to trust people again, but now he is the … [Read more...]

Update: Ulysses

December 19, 2018 By ezarkos

Ulysses came to us several years ago a very different horse than the one he is now. He was severely abused by charros, then abandoned and left to die in a riverbed in Riverside. He was picked up by animal control, and slated to be euthanized the following Monday because he is neurological. Hanaeleh happened to be at the animal shelter to pick up another horse, and a volunteer begged us to take him with us. We put him on the trailer, and the rest is history. It took a long time for Ulysses to … [Read more...]

6 Ways to Identify a Reputable Horse Rescue

April 20, 2017 By ezarkos

Where does a person go to check if a horse rescue is all they say they are? In the world today, especially with the popularity of social media, it's sometimes difficult to identify a reputable horse rescue. Most rescues are reputable - filled with wonderful people who spend many hours saving horses from terrible conditions. But there are some poseurs out there that take advantage of good-hearted people. Hanaeleh recently learned about the District Attorney shutting down two fake horse rescues … [Read more...]
