Working Together to Rescue a Baby Donkey, Ends Happily!
We were contacted this week to help rescue a baby donkey who was in dire need. He was one of 55 donkeys that were rounded up in Texas and sent to the Kaufman McBarron Slaughter Holding Station...and scheduled to ship to Mexico. He was actually pulled from the truck on the way to the slaughterhouse! The little donkey was sent to quarantine where he was vetted, wormed and was otherwise healthy. Aurora: Newest Rescue Horse at Hanaeleh
Last December we were contacted by a family who had a buckskin Quarter horse in need. The owners had major medical issues and the other family members were not able to take the horse. Unfortunately, because of the horse's age (she is 26) and because she had not been worked with for a while, they had difficulties finding a home for her. Horse Olympics
This last Saturday was our first Horse Olympics and Chili Cookoff out at Hanaeleh! Our volunteers did an excellent job of working with the horses through four main events: On-ground Keyhole (where they would run from one side of the arena, turn around, then run back), moving through the cones (without knocking them over), walking over the poles (without touching them), and walking through the "car wash" (horses don't like things touching their faces, so this was more difficult than it may seem … [Read more...]
