Garnet’s 7-Week Update

November 9, 2021 By ezarkos

Garnet continues to do well after her arytenoidectomy- the surgery that cut away part of the inflamed and infected area around her larynx. We have been slowly weaning her off of the steroids, and she seems to be comfortable at rest in her stall. When we took her in a few months ago, her breathing was labored even at rest- now her breathing is quiet and she seems much healthier. The area around her surgery sites has been healing well and is only a little swollen now, so that unless you looked … [Read more...]

What about Bob (the Sheep)?

November 9, 2021 By ezarkos

Last week we received a phone call about a baby lamb who had been attacked by a dog. His leg was cut and his tail was completely degloved. The owners were concerned because they were not in a position to continue to pay for his vet bills, plus they did not feel they would be able to clean and wrap his wounds on a daily basis. He is only six months old and is a babydoll sheep, which is the same breed as the three already at Hanaeleh. Usually when people call us about taking farm animals, we often … [Read more...]

Murrieta, CA: 2 Quarter Horse Geldings Need Home (Must Go Together)

November 7, 2021 By ezarkos

Please help find a home for two registered American Quarter horse geldings. They must go together. The horses are buddy sour- which means that if you try to take one away, the other will get very upset, and run around. They are fine as long as they are worked within sight of each other. Hanaeleh was contacted by a woman who is looking to find a home for two Quarter horses. These horses are NOT at Hanaeleh- they are located with the owner in Murrieta, CA. If you are interested in these horses, … [Read more...]

Ollie’s New Shoes

October 27, 2021 By ezarkos

Ollie is a 14 year old Irish Sport Horse who needed a place to live. He is a retired Grand Prix jumper (which meant he was jumping 6 foot jumps!) who had developed navicular and suspensory issues in his front legs, which prevented him from being ridden. Although his owners were committed to caring for him, he was miserable out in a retirement facility where he got very little interaction with humans. He was moved to a training facility in Utah, but his owners lived in California and wanted to be … [Read more...]

June 17, 2025 By ezarkos

We were contacted by a family who has been caring for a Shetland pony and a small blind Appaloosa after their owner passed away, but are unable to keep them. They have looked for other options for these two and sadly, have not been able to find anyone to take them. They are looking for a good home … [Read More...]

Help “Spirit” 9 y/o Buckskin Quarter Horse Gelding Find a New Home (Norco CA)

June 17, 2025 By ezarkos

We were contacted by one of our supporters who had rescued a nine year-old buckskin Quarter Horse gelding from auction. He was shut down at first, but she has done quite a bit of work with him on the ground and he is starting to come around and be more sociable. Sadly, Spirit has navicular, and … [Read More...]
