Orange County, CA: 22 y/o Dutch Warmblood mare needs home

December 13, 2013 By ezarkos

"Jumara" is a very well bred 22-year-old imported Dutch Warmblood, used as a broodmare and dressage horse.  She is sound, barefoot, and a relatively easy keeper as long as she's not in a pasture environment.  (She is the lowest in the pecking order and loses weight from not standing up for herself.)  She is a sweet girl, and very sensitive, so will need a kind rider.  She is currently being ridden in dressage at the OC Fairgrounds. Jumara was adopted earlier this year, but her owner can no … [Read more...]

Orange County, CA: QH mare needs home ASAP!

December 11, 2013 By ezarkos

This little Quarter horse mare is from the same stable that we rescued the Arabian mares from a few weeks ago.  She is about 14 years old.  The owner of the stables took this mare in on a trade, and she has been used in a lesson program for the past several months. She has a swollen knee, and is going to be sent to auction if we cannot find a place for her.  The owner says he would rather not have to send her to the auction, but will do so knowing fully that she may be purchased by a killer … [Read more...]

Rescue Story: Two Arabian Mares are Safe!

Horse Rescue Orange County CA

The Grey Mares are Safe! It was pouring rain when we drove up to the stable early Friday-after-Thanksgivingmorning. We met Kathy, the woman who told us the two mares were destined for slaughter because their owner had stopped coming out or paying for them.  She led us to the two mares who were standing in a paddock, in inches of mud and muck. Their shelter was quite small, and the mares were soaked from standing in the rain. Kathy said she had purchased a rake, buckets, and other supplies, … [Read more...]

Orange County, CA: 2 Arabian Mares Need Home ASAP!

November 28, 2013 By ezarkos

Please crosspost! I received a call Wednesday night from someone who has been taking care of two Arabian mares for the past several months (mucking out the stall, getting their feet done, brushing them, etc. She has not been paying board and has NO contact with the owner). The owner has not come to see the horses in several months, and the board is in arrears. The manager of the stable has allegedly told the woman taking care of the horses that the horses have been abandoned and are being sold … [Read more...]
