Garnet’s Surgery- Day One

Today we drove Garnet up to the hospital in preparation for her surgery Friday morning. It was thankfully much cooler than it has been over the past few days, which made the trip nicer for her. Thank you to everyone who donated for Garnet's surgery! We reached our goal and have scheduled her surgery for this coming Friday morning 9/24/21. The surgeon said that this was a very common surgery for Thoroughbreds. He also said that her age was perfectly fine, and that most of the surgeries were done around 15-18 years old because it's when this issue becomes an issue. The surgery is called an arytenoidectomy. Garnet was rescued in August (just last month) and came to Hanaeleh with the diagnosis of COPD. Her owner was unfortunately moving out of state, and the vet felt that a long trip would be too stressful for her current lung condition. Although her owner had her on steroids, when Garnet came to Hanaeleh, we had the vet out to see whether there was anything else we could do for her. 15 y/o Friesian Cross Needs Home

We are looking to find a home for a 15 year old, 14.3 hand Friesian/QH cross. He is a very stocky boy! His name was Gabriel but his current owner calls him Alfie. She adopted him from us and her plan was to train him as a driving horse, but he just is not comfortable driving alone.
