Agoura, CA: Neurological Horse Needs Retirement Home or Will Be Euthanized

July 29, 2013 By ezarkos

This horse needs a retirement home- he is scheduled to be euthanized in a few days if he does not find a safe place. He is neurological and cannot be ridden, but can have a nice retirement.  He has no other health issues.  The woman who is trying to find him a home has offered to pay $100/month for his care. Please see below for more on Rocky and contact info:

————————————————————————————————————————————————————

I am reaching out to  you today because there is an Appy Gelding 25 years old at the barn where I board in Agoura that is in need of a forever home as a companion horse.  Rocky spent his life working as a lesson horse and most recently as a trail horse.  He is handsome, perky, and full of life, affectionate and a total gentleman.  He stands clips and is happy to do anything you ask.  He is sound and a good boy.

He has a neurological issue in that he falls down on the trail.  Otherwise he is in perfect health, no pain and a great personality.

The owner of the barn and Rocky wants to put him down this week because he is not rideable. This blows my mind for Rocky is such a good vital boy. I don’t understand this since Rocky has given his years to humans and now because he is not rideable Rocky’s life will end. If I can find Rocky a forever home/pasture and someone who is willing to let Rocky live out the last few years of his life, the owner of the barn will spare his life.  If not, then he will be put down this week.

I just can’t wrap my heard around this. How can this be?  Rocky trots around, plays with his friends, eats and looks you straight in the eye and then nuzzles and hugs. Rocky has given so much, he deserves to live.

I hope you can help me find Rocky a home as he is full of life.  All horses need a job and Rocky would make a wonderful companion horse.  After all these years that Rocky gave working, he should be allowed to enjoy the years he has left. And, I believe that everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

Rocky has been vetted by Canejo Equine and is UTD on his shots. I appreciate any help you can give.  I am currently contributing 100.00 a month for his care. This commitment would continue to ensure that Rocky can live out his life.

I can be reached at 818-203-7848

I appreciate any help you can provide.
