For Adoption: Cindy Lou (22 y/o Paint Mare)- Companion Home Only

June 14, 2020 By ezarkos

Cindy Lou is a 22 year-old Paint mare who came to Hanaeleh in December of 2019. Although we have determined that Cindy Lou would not be a good candidate as a riding horse, she would be an excellent companion horse for someone who needs a beautiful paint mare. We have been working with her for several months and have gotten her caught up on all of her vet and farrier care. She is sound, healthy and has been doing well barefoot. She gets along well with other horses- in fact, she LOVES other horses. She gets nervous when leaving the ranch alone, but is happy to walk out with another horse buddy. She ties, loves being groomed and picks up her feet well for the farrier.

Cindy Lou had originally been a rental horse at a dude ranch, then was used for breeding. The ranch went bankrupt and they were trying to find homes for all of the horses. Cindy Lou had not been worked with for several years, so they were concerned that she would not get a good home, which is why they asked if Hanaeleh could help. We agreed to take her, and she stayed at a foster home for several months to get her used to people again. We brought her to Hanaeleh this month to determine if she would be a good candidate for a riding horse, but she is too unpredictable under saddle, and we are NOT adopting her out as a riding horse as we are concerned that someone might get hurt. Cindy Lou will only be adopted out as a companion horse. She is a very good girl on the ground, however, and our volunteers have been working with her with no problem. Cindy Lou will not be adopted out to breed, either; Hanaeleh does not adopt out horses for breeding purposes as there are numerous foals out there who need homes.

We are hoping Cindy Lou will find an adoptive home with a new family where she will be loved and seen as their own. Cindy Lou’s adoption fee is reduced to $500 because she is being adopted out as a companion horse only, and any new owner will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Cindy Lou is currently at Hanaeleh, located in Trabuco Canyon, in Orange County, CA. If you are interested in Cindy Lou, please fill out our Horse Inquiry Form.
