Haven and Cullen were moved a few months ago to a more permanent foster home in Orange Park Acres. They are doing very well, so we thought we would share a little update with them!
They are currently being cared for by one of our board members, Kelley, and her group of mentees who she is training for Equine Assisted Coaching. Their original foster mom, Debbie K., also goes up and visits them regularly and works with them! The mentees have started calling them Bonnie and Clyde because they are always together and don’t like to leave each other’s sides.
Haven/Bonnie is looking great- she has gained back a lot of her weight, and she is getting around OK on her knee. We have to limit her turnout time because she will often over do it by playing too much! We have already injected it, and she is on pain medication, so we are doing everything we can do keep her pain managed- since she wants to play and enjoys her turnouts, we are assuming she is doing just fine for right now!
Cullen/Clyde is looking so much better. He has shed out his icky old winter coat and he’s actually a completely different color- he may even end up being a liver chestnut when he is all filled out! He also enjoys playing in the arena, but will over do it as well- last month he hurt his stifle by bucking and running around, so he is still walking a little stiff on that leg. He is also on pain medication, but just like Haven/Bonnie, he seems to be happy enough running around the turnout area.
Our original hope was that they would end up over at a foster home with one of the people who went through our veteran’s program, but it would be a long trailer ride, and both of them are just too fragile for such a long trip. Our goal is to keep them comfortable and healthy until we are no longer able to manage their pain… that might be a few months, or a few years… we just don’t know. Right now the plan for right now is just to keep them safe.
We are very thankful for those people who have helped foster these two lovely horses- they are alive and happy because of your generous donations who allowed us to take them. We are also very thankful for Debbie K., who originally sponsored them, their current foster, and Kelley and all of her wonderful mentees who take such awesome care of these two lovely horses! Thank you for giving them a chance to live out the rest of their lives in safety and comfort!
