Thousand Oaks, CA: 10 y/o Thoroughbred Needs Home!

June 28, 2019 By ezarkos

We were contacted about a beautiful Thoroughbred mare who needs a home. Destiny is NOT with Hanaeleh. For more information, please email her owner, Sarah: sarah.utterback@gmail.com

Destiny is a beautiful bay 10 y/o OTTB (Off the track Thoroughbred) mare. Destiny’s track name is Notjustanumber (all one word), and was bred in California. She is a descendant of exceptional racehorses, including Man o’ War, War Admiral and Hyperion, just to name a few. You can see her pedigree here: https://www.pedigreequery.com/notjustanumber

Destiny made over $21,000 for her owner before Destiny was injured during her racing career, and instead of retiring her so she would not be in danger of slaughter, her trainer/owner sold her off to an uncertain future. The vet says that Destiny most likely got a fracture in her knee when she was still racing, but it was never given the chance to heal properly. Destiny is NOT with Hanaeleh. Please email her owner, Sarah: sarah.utterback@gmail.com

Thankfully, Destiny was not sent to the slaughterhouse as is often the case with many injured Thoroughbreds. Destiny was purchased by a woman who has taken good care of her, but unfortunately she is now having financial difficulties. She would like to find Destiny a companion home where she can be cared for. Destiny is up-to-date on all of her vaccines (March, 2019) and her farrier care (June, 2019). She is currently barefoot.

Unfortunately, Destiny cannot be ridden because of severe arthritis in her front right knee from her racing injury. Besides her knee, however, she is healthy and her other legs are strong. She still enjoys being turned out and walking around.

Destiny is a great companion horse as she forms deep bonds with any horse she is with. She is in need of a forever home where she can enjoy the rest of her life. Once she settles into a new home, she is very sweet. She does need a confident and experienced handler.

Can you help Destiny find a safe home? She deserves to live out the rest of her life in dignity and with a loving family. Destiny is NOT with Hanaeleh. Please email her owner, Sarah: sarah.utterback@gmail.com
