This past year one of our board members adopted not one- but two(!!)- horses from Hanaeleh. The first horse she adopted is named Chance- he is a warmblood we had networked who could be lightly ridden, but could no longer be jumped. The other is our lovely Brutus, who had a very difficult life before he came to Hanaeleh at three. He was malnourished and had not been socialized or trained at all. To top things off, he was a stallion, and when Hanaeleh stepped in, was owned by a few teenagers who literally had no place to keep him, and were walking around the neighborhood asking people if they could keep a completely untrained stallion in their backyard.
Fast forward to present day, and both Chance and Brutus are doing well!
Brutus’ mom says:
“I could hardly wait to get him home last June. When he got here it was like he knew that he found his forever home. He loves his new herd and is as silly as ever. I always say he should be called “Curious George”. He doesn’t fear much especially if I investigate it first. “Mom seems to think it wont kill us, so it must be ok”. The herd has been helping him understand what horse manners look like. When we are out working around the ranch I often find all of us watching Brutus with his “horse teacher” in the round pen. Most of the time we end up laughing because he is like a little kid at Disneyland. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to adopt him. He is my horse match- full of curiosity, spunk and loves to please. Thank you Hanaeleh for making this year a great one.”
She also says about Chance:
“When he first came I could tell that he seemed a little sad because he had lost his person. After a couple of months I had him start working in my Equine Assisted Coaching Program, which helps people heal. He especially loves working with young people, which is no surprise to me since his previous owner was a young girl. He also worked a lot this year with the Vegas shooting Victims (Route 91).”
We are very happy for both Chance and Brutus, and know that they will continue to do well in their new home!
