This past weekend Hanaeleh was invited to bring over a few horses to a neighboring facility that was just recently put up for sale. The equestrian property is just around the corner from Hanaeleh, and the agent, Ashlyn Moore, wanted to have some horses in the arena while it was being shown. We thought it would be great to get some more exposure for Hope and Grace, and also to talk with people about Hanaeleh.
After our very exhausting workday, Jocelyn and Brandye groomed Hope and Grace and we loaded them into the trailer. They were a bit hesitant about getting in, but walked in after a few minutes of sniffing the shavings on the trailer floor. It was a short 5-minute ride from Hanaeleh to the property, but even after such a short time, Grace was already starting to sweat from anxiety. Of course, she promptly rolled in the arena, so what was a white horse when we left Hanaeleh was a white-and-brown horse. Hope was fine, and they began walking around the arena, investigating to see if there was any food (alas, there was none). The arena is made of stone, but one part of it is very low, only about three feet high, so we were a bit concerned that they would think about jumping out. We left their halters on, just in case, but while Grace paced back and forth for a short time, for the most part, they just wandered about, rolled in the sand, or just hung out with us.
Several people came up to see Hope and Grace, and sometimes they would pose nicely; other times, they would wander off to the other side of the arena and would not be as sociable. It started to get a bit warm throughout the day, so they spent most of the past hour just dozing in the sun.
Jocelyn and I stayed with Hope and Grace the entire time, one of us making sure to be with them when the other drove up and see the beautiful house and the grounds. Everyone on the staff was very friendly and helpful, and it was wonderful talking with them and with the people who came out to look at the property.
If you’re wondering why we are not thinking of purchasing this piece of land for our rescue, well… we don’t have $8.9 million. Still, it was lovely to visit, and Hope and Grace seemed to enjoy their short stay there as well.
