UPDATE: Savannah Loves Her New Home!

April 1, 2018 By ezarkos

Although we ask that all of our new horse owners give us annual updates on the horses we adopt out to them, we often like to go down to see the horses when it’s convenient. Savannah’s new owner asked if we would like to go down to see her, and of course we said, “YES!” and headed out to see her this afternoon. We first rescued Savannah in 2014- she had been found starving to death in a paddock up north with a foal at her side. A home was quickly found for her foal, and a wonderfull well-intentioned woman offered to rescue Savannah. Unfortunately, she quickly realized she was unable to provide enough care for Savannah, so we offered to take her.

Savannah was severely undernourished and needed a great deal of care before she was able to be adopted out. One of our volunteers fell in love with her and adopted her in 2015, but a year later for personal reasons, he needed to give Savannah back. We at Hanaeleh want to ensure that the horses we rescue never face an uncertain future again, so we always take back our horses if the new owners are no longer able to care for them. Savannah’s previous owner took excellent care of her, so we were able to quickly adopt her out when a wonderful woman named Sarah Jon called and asked us about her! It was a match made in heaven!

Savannah has been doing very well in her INCREDIBLE new home. She has four mini donkeys as friends (who are as sweet as they are adorable) as well as a very cute pig!

When we arrived at Savannah’s new home, the barn manager gave me a short tour of the most immaculate barn I think I have ever seen. I think my house has more dirt in it than this barn. Savannah has a beautiful stall that she can sleep in at night, and the donkeys and pig have their own incredibly clean stalls as well. We then went out to see Savannah, although I admit we kind of got waylaid by the most adorable mini donkeys! Savannah didn’t seem to mind, as she was busy eating grass in the pasture. We said hello to her, and she was pretty unimpressed with the fact that we came with no treats whatsoever, and went back to eating grass. We stayed there for about an hour, just hanging out with Savannah and the donkeys.

It is wonderful being able to see one of our horses do so well in their new home. Savannah’s coat was beautiful, she is obviously healthy and happy, and perfectly content in her new home. Every time we adopt out a horse, there is always an element of uncertainty, but I can say with great conviction that Savannah could not have gotten a better home. We are so thankful to Sarah Jon for taking such incredible care of Savannah and we know that they will continue to be very happy together for years to come!
