Trabuco Canyon, CA: Delilah- 9 y/o Thoroughbred mare needs home

January 20, 2014 By ezarkos

We rescued Delilah when her owner abandoned her at a neighboring facility. She had a nail stuck in her foot from a shoe that had twisted, and had been left in a stall for months. It took several months for us to put weight back on her, and then also to get Delilah pain-free.  She is now able to be ridden, and is a very sweet girl.

Delilah is currently being ridden (walk, trot, canter) in the arena, and we have taken her out for a few short trips on trail and the street. She has done great in two of our sensory clinics, and is not spooky, but she has not had much trail experience- we have taken her out for short rides on the street, and she is good, but nervous.  She would need someone who was able to continue to work with her and start with very short trail rides with a group or another horse, and then work up to longer rides.  She responds very well to positive reinforcement, and really tries to please, but she did not have a lot of positive experiences before she came to us.

Delilah would need someone who is an intermediate rider, and as she is a Thoroughbred, you would need to post her trot. Again, she really tries to please, and if she does something you like, and you say “Good girl,” she will repeat that action for praise. She was really starved for love when she came and would need someone kind and patient.

We took Delilah to the OC Fairground last year and she was very mellow and sweet, and not nervous at all with all of the hundreds of people gawking at her. She trailers well, and stands for the farrier.

All of Hanaeleh’s horses have a $1,000 adoption fee and Hanaeleh retains a first right-of-refusal.

If you are interested in adopting Delilah, please fill out the horse inquiry form:
