Orange County, CA: 2 Arabian Mares Need Home ASAP!

November 28, 2013 By ezarkos

Please crosspost!

I received a call Wednesday night from someone who has been taking care of two Arabian mares for the past several months (mucking out the stall, getting their feet done, brushing them, etc. She has not been paying board and has NO contact with the owner). The owner has not come to see the horses in several months, and the board is in arrears. The manager of the stable has allegedly told the woman taking care of the horses that the horses have been abandoned and are being sold to a killer buyer this weekend to go to slaughter.

I am going down to the stables on Friday to talk with the manager (who will probably deny the slaughter issue as it is illegal to sell or transport a horse to slaughter in CA, but with no oversight it still happens).  If I can get the horses released, I need a place to take them. I can transport them, but they need to go *somewhere*.

Here is what I know: 2 Arabian mares (possibly mother and daughter but don’t know). One is 15, the other is in her mid 20s. Both were rideable but have not been ridden in a year- they have been in a paddock all this time. They are supposed to be registered (I will know more about their registration info and real names on Friday). They can be handled and walked around the stable, and the person who has been taking care of them had their feet done and wormed them.  They probably need their shots, but otherwise they appear to be in good weight and in good health.

Let me know if you are able to take them. I know it’s short notice, but perhaps we can work together to get these girls safe!
You can call me: (949) 842-7408 or e-mail me: elizabeth@hanaeleh.org. Thanks!
