We are pleased to announce that Titan is now up for adoption! Titan is a 15 year-old Hanoverian/Irish Sport Horse Warmblood. He came to Hanaeleh because both of his hind suspensories had been torn and his owner did not want to rehab him. It's been almost a year, but he is now cleared for trotting and turn-out, and we have been riding him without issues. Titan is a BIG boy- he's 17 hands and WIDE. Teeth Floating (and more)- Part II
It had been a long, hot and dry day out at the barn, but around 4pm the horses had all had their teeth floated. We were tired but happy that things had gone so well, and the horses all seemed to come out of the sedation well and were back in their stalls, waiting for dinner. I was passing out the grain when I walked by Titan's stall, and noticed him choking- he had green gunk coming out of his nose and mouth and seemed to be suffocating on his own bile. Teeth Floating (and more)- Part I
Every year Hanaeleh's horses get their teeth floated, or filed down, by an equine veterinarian. Even though our horses are fed between three to five times per day, they still don't wear their teeth the same way they would in the wild, and need to have waves and sharp edges filed down before they become bigger issues. UPDATE: Titan
A few weeks ago we had the veterinarian out to reassess Titan's suspensory tendons. We rescued Titan from his previous owner because his suspensories were torn and he needed a long rehab. It has been six months since we took him in, and he has only been able to walk for about 15-20 minutes per day. We were hoping that the vet would clear Titan to light trotting, but he was concerned that the suspensories were not healed quite enough for trotting yet.
