We have the funds, an expert hauler and a capable rescue all in place. WE JUST NEED SOMEONE TO PULL HIM!
Can anyone meet transport at Devore tomorrow (Wednesday) to pull this guy? He needs to be pulled by an authorized puller. You don’t have to have special authorization to pull horses. If you’re approved for dogs/cats, it’ll work!

Dream Catcher Equestrian Rescue in Pueblo, Colorado is willing to take this stallion in, geld him and give him a good home if someone can get him to their ranch.
The quote I received for shipping that far is $1500-$2200 which is beyond what I’m capable or comfortable with coordinating. I am happy to try and help find a puller or provide the shipper’s information if that helps.

Again, he has a home waiting (a really good one from the sound of it), just needs someone to get him there.

I’ve received new information that this stallion is not 3 but 13 years old. He’s also not a Bay, probably a liver chestnut.
Also, just as a note, this horse MUST go to an experienced handler. He is listed as rescue only because he will be dangerous in the wrong hands. I want to see him saved more than anything but just want to be clear in my efforts of finding him a rescue that he is not just a horse that needs a home. He needs a home with someone who knows how to handle him.

6.23 UPDATE (as of this afternoon)

The Bay stallion is still at the shelter. The shelter has received no rescue inquiries on him.
The shelter is holding him until 6/26 (Sunday) and they will then review his case and make a decision on his disposition. I’m not exactly sure what they mean by that.
There are postings that the shelter is not releasing him. This is NOT true. They will release him to a rescue, there just hasn’t been an offer from a rescue to take him that has come together yet.

Please continue sharing him. Time is running out quickly. I’ve been contacted with some reasonably priced transport options if it will help, he just needs somewhere safe to go.

The other two horses were picked up from the shelter so are safe.

IMPORTANT UPDATES ON THE 3 DEVORE SHELTER HORSES

The pregnant mare and cremello (or palomino) stallion had several bids so will be going to their new homes.

The Bay stallion who is rescue only STILL needs to be rescued and QUICK! The shelter has received no requests for holds or inquiries from rescues on him. I haven’t been able to connect with the rescue up north so am not sure if that’s still an option. I’ve received no response as far as help with transport to that rescue aside from a professional shipper who is asking $1050 + cost of any damage to the trailer. I’m not sure if that transport option is feasible if the rescue up north is still able to take him.

Is there another rescue group who can save this poor guy? He’s only 3 years old. If he’s gelded and gets some training, he’ll likely be a great horse.

Note, I’m not suggesting anyone has backed out or is unwilling to help by any means. I just haven’t heard anything in a couple of days and I don’t want this guy to slip through the cracks. Devore doesn’t keep horses long after their available date so let’s keep the ball rolling to make sure he is rescued.

RESCUE OFFER – NEED TRANSPORT/PULL

Kate Montgomery with The Dog Spot rescue group in Vacaville, CA is offering to take the rescue only stallion as well as the other two horses (if they don’t sell through the auction process). Can anyone help with transport? We’ll likely need a puller as well.

Details are kind of up in the air as we won’t know if the two available horses will find homes through the auction nor do we know how much time the horses wil have to get out of the shelter. I’m assuming they’ll need to be out within a week so we may as well get the ball rolling now so transport can be lined up when it’s time to get the horses out. Chestnut is a 13 y/o pregnant mare for adoption
Cremello is a 5 y/o stallion for adoption

There are 3 horses in need of rescue or adopters at the Devore Animal Shelter in San Bernadino, CA.

1 Cremello Stallion and 1 Pregnant Mare are available for a sealed bid auction. Bids must be submitted to the shelter in person by close of business, June 20th. The horses will be given to the highest bidder. Please get your bids in if you can offer them a good home so they don’t end up in the wrong hands.

There is also a 3rd horse who is available to rescue only due to behavior. He’s a stallion, is not halter broke and sounds like he’s challenging.

Below is a description of the horses from the shelter. If you scroll to the very bottom of this email, you’ll see pictures of the mare and stallion available for adoption. I don’t have a picture of the 3rd stallion.

Please share far and wide so these horses can be saved. Definitely share this with any experienced horse people who might be able to help the 3rd stallion as well.

Hello Alicia,

Both of the horses are available for adoption (thru a sealed bid auction process). We will be accepting bids thru the 20^th and notifying the winning bidders on the 21^st. Should no bids be placed, the horses will be available for rescue adoption (to a 501(c)(3) partner) on the 21^st, on a first come/ first served basis.

There is a third horse, which is available to rescue only. This is due to this behavior at time of impound and observed behavior while at the shelter (Acts like a stallion, not halter broke, and has shown aggression towards anyone entering its corral).

The horse that is only available to rescue adoption (thru the bidding process) is a stallion, as is the other male. When the vet examined the mare, by manual examination, he said he believed her to be with foal. However, that was not what she was taken to the vet and examined. We have no information as to who is the sire.

These horses were impounded as abandoned after the owner was arrested and there was no one to provide care for the horses. The owner was contacted, while still in custody, and contact information was provided by him for family members who may be able to reclaim the horses on his behalf. A family member was contacted and made aware of the fees due to re-claim the horses. The family member has re-contacted the shelter, but has not notified us they were coming forward to claim the horses. They were made aware should they fail to reclaim the horses by the close of business on the date we stop accepting bids, the horses would be adopted to the highest bidder(s).
