Hello Everybody!
What a long weekend we had! Our farrier, Josh Sanders, trimmed all of the horses’ feet on Saturday… a huge thanks to Al for staying until he finished at 4pm!!
Your weekly horse update:
Nevada- He got his front feet done again- we’re still working on his back feet… hopefully he will be trusting enough for us to get them done soon! He is definitely feeling good, though- he was running around and playing with Tamahome this week both in their paddock and in the arena.
Tamahome- Yes, he’s still cute! I’ve been working with him on leg cues so I can ride him bitless… he’s doing pretty well!
Sapphire- It was a LOOONG drive up and an even LOOONGER drive back, but we are back, safe and sound, with Sapphire! It was somewhat disconcerting to see her so strung out and upset when we arrived, and she was distrusting when we tried to load her. It took us two hours, but when she walked into the trailer, she was calm and sane, and seemed to have some of her brain back. She really seems to be happy to be back, and has been nickering to us when we feed her. She also is happy with her water bucket, and likes to splash around. We’re going to keep her in the round pen for a few more days to let her settle in, then we’ll play “musical horses.”
Napoleon- What a cutie- he has people coming out to see him on Wednesday to potentially adopt him- hopefully it’s a good match!
Ella- What can we say- she’s still Ella. The fly sheet appears to be helping to keep her safe from wounding herself again.
Raphael- He is doing well, and is continuing to put on weight and muscle. He is feeling pretty good!
Reno- He is still a cutie, and was very good when I rode him this week.
Gypsy- She is doing very well, and was good this week again with the bridle- she really likes Reno’s treats, so Kathleen and Helen have been kissing up to her by offering her some!
Annie- She seems to be settling in nicely with Rio- she is definitely the “alpha” of the pair, but is not as concerned with Ella as she once was. She is doing better with the bit- just a little at a time!
Rio- He did very well on his walk on Saturday. Kathleen said he got a gold star for his wonderful behavior!
Charley- He is looking so good! I am hopefully going to put up some before/after pictures of him this week- my computer is being stupid about opening the files for some reason. His stall looks so much better since Ken and Nick put the mats in the front- and his feet look better, too!
Three more things: 1. Remember to sign up at Ralphs.com with your card to earn money for Hanaeleh. 2. Sign up for a horsie for halloween! There are prizes, I promise!! We will be having a BBQ that afternoon, so feel free to bring your friends and family, too! 3. We are in the middle of revamping our volunteer program, so look for an e-mail from me in the next few days… we are looking for feedback, so feel free to speak up. 🙂
Take care and have a good week! Thank you to everyone for everything you do! 🙂
