I apologize for the e-mails… this is a very busy time of year for horse rescues- many horses find themselves in danger of going to the auction/slaughterhouse during the fall for several reasons. Sometimes the extreme riding of the summer and show season has made them lame. Sometimes owners know that they are going to sell their horse that year, but want to enjoy them through the summertime, and then sell them in the fall. Sometimes there are not enough sheds or stalls for the horses in the wintertime, as the horses are out in pasture during the summer.
In any case, it means that I apologize in advance for some of these e-mails you will be getting about horses who need homes- and usually they need homes ASAP. Often we will get calls two or three weeks before the board payment is due, and the horse is expected either at the auction or kill pen by that time. Many of these horses are good, reliable friends who just don’t have a lot of time- these two guys in this e-mail seem to be great, and hopefully will find a home very quickly! They are just gorgeous, and very kind and patient, as you can see from the pictures of them under saddle!
Please cross-post if you can, and thank you again for your patience!
Thank you,
Elizabeth Zarkos
