One of our volunteers is looking for a home for a dog she is fostering, Cici. If you are interested in Cici, please contact the owner directly: [email protected]
Cici is approximately four years old, and is most likely a German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix. She is currently about 60lbs, up from 42lbs and “emaciated” in early December. Other than an ongoing need for exercise and socialization, she’s made a complete recovery from her however many months chained out doors, alone, in someone’s backyard with little to no human interaction, and long term gastrointestinal upset from grain-based cheap food, causing food aggression. She has improved dramatically on a non-grain based food.
She is getting better at walking off leash but can still be a challenge and wants to pull hard for the first 10 minutes. If you have the patience to correct the behavior and get her calm before going out, she will settle down and walks OK (if a bit distractedly) on leash.
She is a love bug and wants to cuddle on the sofa at night. Her manners are generally very good now but she will still growl at inappropriate times (insecure) but has never offered to bite. Now that she’s back to her healthy weight she has a lovely personality and is gaining confidence and social skills daily.
She is good with children and with other, non aggressive dogs. No idea how she is with cats. She has a very strong prey drive and chases my feral rabbit out in the barn at any opportunity and can be completely single minded about it. If a house cat stood up to her, though, I think the daft girl would cower in a corner! She’s generally respectful of horses but will bark at them. The only caveat, is that she’s got a fixation with the pony, and will chase her.
